DISCIPLESHIP AT HEARTLAND
Fulfilling the Great Commission
Following His resurrection, Jesus commanded His followers to "go and make disciples of all nations" (Matt. 28:19–20). That mission has been entrusted to the church until the gospel spreads to the ends of the earth and God's glory fills the whole world (Acts 1:8; Hab. 2:14). At Heartland Church, we believe disciple-making is not simply one of the things we do—it is at the heart of who we are and why we exist.
What
Discipleship is obeying the call to follow Jesus and helping others to do the same. It is a lifelong process where the whole of our lives bends in joyful submission to Christ as Lord.
How
Discipleship happens as we live life together in the church, teaching each other to obey the commands of Christ through instruction, example, encouragement, and accountability.
Why
Discipleship has one aim—maturity in Christ. It is being transformed by the work of the Spirit in and through his church that we may become more like Christ, all to the glory of God.

An intentional plan for abiding in Christ
Growing as a disciple of Jesus doesn't happen by accident—it requires intentionality. Jesus calls this abiding: remaining in Him so that our lives bear lasting fruit (John 15). As we practice the rhythms that keep us rooted in Christ, the Holy Spirit transforms us to become more like Him. The following practices shape our discipleship at Heartland as we seek to follow Jesus and help others do the same.
Discipleship
Obeying the call to follow Jesus and helping others do the same.
Grace
Living in the joy of God’s undeserved grace and extending that same grace to others.
Prayer
Depending on God through lives marked by adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and supplication.
Selfless Living
Faithfully using everything God has entrusted to us for the glory of good and the good of others.
Sending
Raising up disciples that will go out into our community, our nation, and the world with the gospel message.
Sound Teaching
Joyfully submitting to the authority and sufficiency of God's Word in all we believe, say, and do.
